November 22, 2010

Good Morning! Welcome to Art Starts
Art Starts brings you timely updates from the NH State Council on the Arts as well as from our local, regional and national partners.

From the NH State Council on the Arts…

NH State Council on the Arts Grants Information Workshops:
December 13, 2010, from 2-4:30 p.m. and January 18, 2011 from 9:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Not for profit organizations, schools and individual artists interested in applying for NH State Council on the Arts FY2012 grants are encouraged to attend one of our upcoming grant information sessions.

Each session will include an overview of the NHSCA, information on FY2012 grant opportunities and a summary of the program services we offer.

The NHSCA has made several changes to our FY2012 grant categories. Even if you have applied for NHSCA grants in the past, you are strongly encouraged to attend one of the sessions and to visit our website to review the changes.

Both workshops will be held at the NHSCA, 2 ½ Beacon Street, Suite 225, Concord, NH 03301.

Pre-registration is required. Please call (603) 271-2789 to register.

FY 2011 NH State Council on the Arts Artist Entrepreneurial Grant Deadline:
January 14, 2011
(for projects taking place between March 1, 2011 & September 30, 2011)

The NH State Council on the Arts recognizes that artist-entrepreneurs contribute significantly to New Hampshire’s economy.

Artist Entrepreneurial Grants are competitive. They support opportunities that will increase the capacity of professional artists, including:

  • The development of business skills needed to support their art making
  • Participation in programs intended to raise the level and quality of their art making
  • Participation in programs that will bring their art to the widest possible markets.

Grant requests may be made for $250 - $1,000.

Deadline: Postmarked on or before Friday, January 14, 2011, or delivered to the NHSCA, 2½ Beacon St., Suite 225, Concord, NH, by 4:15 p.m. on January 14, 2011.

FY 2011 NH State Council on the Arts General Project Grant Deadline:
January 28, 2011 (for projects taking place between March 1, 2011 & September 30, 2011)

General Project Grants are competitive and require a one-to-one match. They benefit New Hampshire by supporting both ongoing and new projects that bring arts presentations and activities to our communities.

Organizations seeking funding in this category are strongly encouraged to develop projects that:

  • Include and compensate New Hampshire artists
  • Bring arts presentations and activities to underserved populations in New Hampshire
  • Incorporate sustainable and “green” principals (e.g. energy conservation, recycling and utilization of renewable resources).

Grant requests may be made for $750 - $3,000. Applicants may apply for more than one grant per fiscal year, but the total combined grant awards will not exceed $3,000.

Deadline: Postmarked on or before Friday, January 28, 2011, or delivered to the NHSCA, 2½ Beacon St., Suite 225, Concord, NH, by 4:15 p.m. on January 28, 2011.

From NH State Council on the Arts Partners...

New England Foundation for the Arts (NEFA)’s New England States Touring (NEST) grant deadline: December 1, 2010

New England States Touring (NEST) grants provide support to nonprofit organizations based in New England for community-related activities and performances  featuring New England performing artists from outside of the applicant/presenter's state.

These grants provide a wonderful opportunity for NH organizations to feature artists from our neighboring states.  To get ideas on artists to feature, go to NEFA’s networking resource: www.matchbook.org.

NEST grants also provide an opportunity for NH performing artists to tour the New England region.  Interested NH artists should contact NEFA for information on how to connect with presenters in the region. Contact Adrienne Petrillo, Program Manager, Presenting & Touring at (617) 951-0010 x527 or by emailing: presentingtouring@nefa.org.

Eligibility: Any nonprofit, school, or government entity based in New England (Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Vermont) is eligible to apply for a NEST grant.

Deadline: December 1, 2010 for projects beginning on or after March 1, 2011.

The Greater Concord Chamber of Commerce and the leaders of its Creative Concord initiative are studying the potential of developing affordable live and work space to support the growing creative sector in Concord, NH.

Two surveys (one for individuals and one for organizations) are being conducted.
